Edward Omane Boamah Wife, Children, Parents, Age, Net Worth, and Cause of Death

Edward Omane Boamah was reported dead among the dignitaries who died in a plane crash on August 6th, 2025, at Adansi District, Ashanti Region.

He was a renowned medical doctor and served as a defense minister under John Mahama’s NDC administration before his passing.

Edward Omane Boamah, in previous governance, served as the Minister for Communications under the first term of the sitting president, John Dramani Mahama.

Biography of Edward Omane Boamah

The late Edward Omane Boamah was born on December 26, 1974, to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Boamah.

He was 50 years old before his death.

Omane Boamah attended Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary in Koforidua.

He was trained as a Medical Doctor at the University of Ghana, Legon, and briefly attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

Before his death, Omane Boamah held a master’s degree in Health Policy Planning and Financing from both the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

While in school, the late Omane Boamah served as the President of the National Union of Ghana Students and the Coordinating Secretary of the Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association.

Omane Boamah served as a Deputy Minister for Environment, Science and Technology from 2009 to 2012. He was instrumental as the deputy campaign coordinator in the 2012 general elections for the National Democratic Congress.

While alive, he served as the vice chairman of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development.

During the administration of the late John Evans Atta Mills, Omane Boamah was appointed the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports and served between 2012 and 2013.

After the NDC had retained power in the 2012 general elections, Edward Omane Boamah was appointed the Minister for Communication by President John Mahama in February 2013.

He was also appointed spokesperson to the President from August 2014 to January 2017.

Omane Boamah as a Medical Doctor

In 2004, Boamah served the World Health Organization as a member of the volunteers who monitored the organization’s 2004 Expanded Program on Immunization in the Asuogyaman district in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

He was also a member of the Medical Rescue team for the Accra Sports Stadium disaster in  2001.

After the National Democratic Congress had lost the 2016 general election, Omane Boamah returned to his medical practice at the Afrah International Hospital.

He was among the 8 who perished in the plane crash en route to Obuasi for an event to combat galamsey (illegal mining) in Ghana.

The military Z-9 helicopter, which crashed on Wednesday, killed all eight (8) onboard, including the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Limuna Mohammed Muniru, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, former Parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Pilot Squadron leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Co-Pilot Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Crew Member Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
